Cory Bianco

Senior Engineer at Flock Safety · Johnson City, Tennessee

Hi! I build the platforms other engineering teams ship on: microfrontends, deployment pipelines, real-time notifications and the infrastructure underneath them. Off the clock, I make games for game night.

Now

Building the frontend core platform at Flock Safety. After hours I'm adding expansions and polish to Quacks Online.

Experience

Flock Safety

Senior Engineer, Frontend Core

Feb 2024 – Present
  • Architected a microfrontend platform (Module Federation + rsbuild) and led 8 customer-facing teams through migrating their SPAs onto it.
  • Designed and built an in-app Notification Center: a Go processor consuming SQS, WebSocket delivery, a shared React component library and a TypeScript BFF. It has delivered millions of notifications since launch.
  • Wrote reusable, org-wide GitHub Actions that overhauled SPA deployment. A release-retention strategy keeps prior S3 bundles available, cutting missing-chunk errors by ~90%, and browser caching made repeat loads near-instant.
  • Production-hardened the feature-layer service with caching, autoscaling tuning, OpenTelemetry tracing and Auth0 fixes, cutting latency ~80% compared with calling Esri directly.
  • Own Terraform and Helm provisioning for the team, standing up the infrastructure (ingress, IAM/SSM scoping) that let a dozen-plus new internal services ship.
  • Sole member of a cross-functional team building products and services for other engineering teams and customers.
  • Designed shared-worker and IndexedDB patterns for sharing data across microfrontends.
  • Built a vanity-PR system with the SRE team, using repository dispatch, so teams can preview their PR rendered live inside the microfrontend before merge.
  • Built a scheduling service (EventBridge + SQS) that lets product teams run customer-defined recurring jobs.
  • Migrated auditing from DynamoDB to ClickHouse for much better performance and maintainability.
  • Rewrote navigation as a shared singleton library, replacing the nav logic each application's BFF used to determine on its own.
  • Go-to engineer for high-visibility fires, dropping into short-staffed teams for critical deployments. Most notably, stood up a new Case Management microservice and admin SPA, infra and CI included, from scratch under deadline.
  • Go-to person for design changes to the centralized React component library and design system.
  • Built observability dashboards for Node services, Datadog RUM monitoring for SPAs, synthetic uptime tests and Playwright tests in CI/CD.
  • Wrote custom AI skills that make complex workflows easier for engineers with limited context.
  • Interviewed 20+ candidates for software engineering roles.

Software Engineer III, Real Time & Alerting

Feb 2023 – Feb 2024
  • Team lead: onboarded new engineers and mentored interns on working in a production environment.
  • Led the migration from Jenkins to GitHub Actions across all team repositories.
  • Developed a custom map layer system that lets customers link their existing map layers via OAuth 2.0 or upload shapefiles to generate new ones.
  • Contributed to the open-source pg_featureserv to serve Flock devices on the map more efficiently, closing a security vulnerability in the process.
  • Built a suite of map interface tools on the ArcGIS Core libraries, adapting their web components to work in React.
  • Built a commenting system for LPR alerts so users across agencies can discuss specific alerts.
  • Redesigned the entire alerts experience for a new design system, with full responsive design.
  • Created Slack bots that alert the team when each step of a deployment is ready.
  • Partially led scrum and other product and agile activities for the team.

Software Engineer II, Real Time & Alerting

Mar 2022 – Feb 2023
  • Helped build the initial map view on Google Maps, designing SVG icons and custom logic to render each device's field of view.

Cerner (Oracle)

Software Engineer I

Aug 2020 – Feb 2022
  • Worked on a vulnerability viewer and data processor: JavaScript for the UI, Ruby on Rails for routing, Java for the backend and Python for data ingestion and processing.
  • Built a STIG viewer to review and process vulnerabilities for servers across the Cerner ecosystem.

Side projects

Quacks Online

2026

A multiplayer, in-browser version of the board game The Quacks of Quedlinburg, built for our game nights. Friends join a lobby with a four-letter code, bots fill empty seats, and spectators can watch. It supports all three expansions and has a generated soundtrack. Games run on the server and sync to every player over WebSockets.
